Johnathan H. FRAKES, born 6 Sep 1811, Franklin County, Indiana, son of Rev. Aaron and Mary “Polly“ (Greene) FRAKES. He died 7 Jun 1890, Vigo County, Indiana. Jonathan and Sarah are buried at the Prairie Creek Baptist Church. They have large monuments.
    He married Sarah Isabelle McGLONE 8 Jun 1830, Vigo County, Indiana. She was born 19 Sep 1812, Ohio, daughter of William and Mary “Polly” (STAGGS) McGLONE. She died 11 Dec 1891, Vigo County, Indiana. William was the son of Andrew and Margaret (BROWNE) McGLONE. Andrew was the son of Hugh McGLONE.
    On 29 Oct 1850, the census shows Johnathan and Sarah FRAKES living in Prairie Creek Township, Vigo County, Indiana. Children with them were: Polly age 17, William age 15, Melvina age 13, Lebourn age 11, Jemima age 9, Philip age 7, Simion age 5 and Sarah Isabel age 3. Johnathan was listed as a farmer. Johnathan and Sarah were listed as being born in Ohio. All the children were listed as being born in Indiana. They lived next to Elijah STAGGS, Sarah’s uncle, her mother’s brother. Elijah's son, Jeremiah STAGGS, married Mary J. TURNER, daughter of James B. and Mary Ann (FRAKES) TURNER (See Philip and Phoebe (CASE) FRAKES, 2-1-3).
    On 13 Jun 1860, the census shows Jonathan and Sarah FRAKES were still living in Prairie Creek Township, Vigo County, Indiana. Children with them were Melvina age 23, Sebern age 21, Simeon age 15, Sarah age 13, John age 9, and Elijah age 7. Johnathan was listed as being born in Indiana. Sarah listed as being born in Ohio. All the children in Indiana. Jonathan’s farm was valued at $500.00 and his personal property was valued at $500.00. They still lived next to Elijah STAGGS. v On On 12 Aug 1870, the census shows Johnathan and Sarah FRAKES still living in Prairie Creek Township. Sons John R. age 19 and Elijah age 16 were living with them. Johnathan was still listed as a farmer. Property value was $1,000.00. Personal Property value was $450.00. They still lived by the Staggs and also their daughter and son-in-law, the Shoemaker’s. Son Simeon also lived near them.
    On Saturday, 31 Aug 1878, Dr. A. Decker F. POUND sent medicine to Sarah. On Thursday, 5 Sep 1878, Johnathan bought more medicine from Dr. POUND for Sarah. The medication cost 25 cents. v In 1880, the census shows Jonathan and Sarah FRAKES living in Prairie Creek Township, Vigo County, Indiana. Their son John was living with them.

9. John R. FRAKES, born about 1851. He was living with his parents in Prairie Creek Township at age 29 in 1880 census. He apparently died before 1900. He never married. He left his land along Route 230 to his sisters.

Mary "Polly" Frakes, born Jan 1833. She died 11 Feb 1916, age 83.
    She married 1st William SWEEZY 8 Sep 1853, Vigo County, Indiana. They divorced.
    She married 2nd Hiram Wilson FRAKES (Philip and Phoebe (Case) Frakes, 8-2) 9 Nov 1857, Vigo County, Indiana.
    Hiram was born in Vigo County, but moved to Porter County when he was 13. He worked for his father in his pottery business.
    In 1857, Hiram moved to Prairie Creek, Vigo County, where he had a 108 acre farm.

    Mary married Oliver Perry Morton BAILEY 24 Jun 1888, Vigo County, Indiana. He was born 23 Oct 1861, Linton Township, Vigo County, Indiana, son of John and Fanny Shaw (SHOEMAKER) BAILEY. He was the brother of Joseph BAILEY, who married Mary's Aunt Jemima FRAKES (See 5 following). John Bailey was the son of Resin/Rezin and Susanna BAILEY. Fanny was the daughter of Major Henry and Elizabeth (ELLIOTT) SHOEMAKER. Henry SHOEMAKER was born in Beaver County, Pennsylvania in 1792 and died 1867, Prairie Creek, Vigo County, Indiana. He was Justice of the Peace. He also served a Major in the War of 1812. Oliver died 27 Aug 1903, Prairie Creek Township, Vigo County, Indiana.

John was Justice of the Peace. He had a mercantile store in Prairieton.

With them were their children Charley age 9, Sarah age 8, Mary age 6, Franklin age 4, and Martha age 1. John was a farmer. His real estate was valued at $1,500.00. Lebourn FRAKES, born about 1839. He was in the 7th Battery, Indiana Light Artillery during the Civil War and was killed in battle at Chattanooga, Tennessee 28 Mar 1865. He was 5 feet and 6 inches tall, dark hair, blue eyes and fair complexion.

Lebourn married Martha J. BAILEY 7 Nov 1864, Vigo County, Indiana. They had no children.

She was born 26 Nov 1848, daughter of Henry and Mary Ann (STONESTREET) RING. Mary is the half-sister of Elizabeth Jane (See #10 following). She died 23 Jul 1907.

On 12 Aug 1870, the census shows Simeon and Mary FRAKES living in Prairie Creek Township. With them was their daughter Emizetta age 2. Simeon’s cousin, William L. STAGGS (25) was also living with them. William was the son of Elijah STAGGS, Simeon's great-uncle, brother of his Grandmother Mary (STAGGS) McGLONE.

The first part of page one is gone, I therefore don't have the date of the letter. I have typed the letter just like it was written, with all the grammer mistakes.)

The Bunch was all up to Lorey's last friday night we had some time we didn't have until 11 oclock. you ought to have been there because was six girls and only five boys.

Sunday afternoon we were all down to Atlekruse's. There was five girls and four boy's. We actually bought $1 worth of candy for them.

Sunday night Dutch and the two Art's and I played poker at our house. We have got about $20,000 worth of Business College Money. So we gambled right. I won $180 Dutch lost about $2000 Art Coffin was bout $4,000 in the hole. Art Atlehruse won about $15000.

There isn't any school this week Dutch & I have been having some times. We are going down to Dudley Cruzan's Thursday in the buggy. Going to take couple cold quarts & a pint. Don't you wish you could go along.

Myrtle and I had our pictures taken together Monday noon.

Dutch and I went to the Varities in the afternoon. Some guy undertook to undertake the undertaking of putting me out, but he didn't succeed. He made a pass a me and I made one at him that was all there was to it.

Write to me and the bunch especially the girls. I will keep you well informed on the Terre Haute matters.

Elijah "Lige" FRAKES, born 23 May 1854. He died 1 Feb 1905. Buried at Union “Ring” Cemetery.

He married Elizabeth Jane "Janie" RING 13 Jan 1876, Vigo County, Indiana. She was the half-sister of Mary Ellen (See #7 above). Janie was born 4 Oct 1956. She died 21 Feb 1934.
